Karraba Arabian Stud and Equstar training centre is located in the garden of England in beautiful Kent situated on an 850 acre farm near Southborough in Kent in the UK surrounded by mature trees and hedgerows, horses can live out all year round - something that is encouraged by Michelle and Phil who have created the centre. Allowing horses their natural desire to graze, move freely and trickle feed results in happier, fitter and more mature well-balanced individuals. This in turn vastly reduces so many of the problems which permeate the equine world such as lameness, colic and stable vices like cribbing and weaving.
Daryshimah By Syeed- Out of Shimmah
We run a small livery yard attracting clients who appreciate the tranquility, excellent facilities, good hacking, help on hand and the opportunity to have their horses in a place where, as a client has commented "horses are allowed to be horses"
TRAINING
It is the training of horses that is our mainstay. Whilst we are experienced with many breeds our passion is Arabians, which we believe to be the riding horse par excellence. As breeders, we have an insight into those qualities that make the Arabian Horse so special - its intelligence, its stamina and its incredible capacity to learn.
Our training methods are tailored individually to each horse, taking into account issues such as individual character and previous life experiences. We believe in quiet, sympathetic methods of training, neither taking shortcuts nor using "gadgets".
Shimmirah - by Syeed out of Shimmah
We find that in the many horses sent to us for re-training it is often the inability of the person handling the horse previously to distinguish between naughtiness and fear or nervousness that produces most problems. We believe that the backing and schooling process should be interesting and fun for horses allowing them to be partners in the process as opposed to merely being he subjects. Willing pupils who make positive choices for themselves become happy, communicative, inquisitive partners as opposed to automatons who merely go through the motions. Seeing Arabians participate in a vast array of disciplines is a great joy to us.
Phil is an experienced show jumper and eventer, hence our skills also encompass producing horses to jump. We find that jumping encourages horses to become forward-going and is an excellent confidence builder. We also have long experience in retraining horses that people have said
"won't" or "don't" jump, with an excellent success rate.
I hope this brief outline gives an insight into our Stud and Training facility.
